Lucia Fest in Cincinnati - Sunday, Dec 15, 2024

Scandinavian Society of Cincinnati is inviting you to our wonderful St. Lucia Festival on Sunday, December 15th at the Maple Knoll Auditorium.

Santa Lucia's Day is the beginning of the Christmas season in Scandinavia, a celebration of light.

There is a big tradition for celebrating Lucia Day in the Nordic countries and at Scandinavian Society of Cincinnati we carry on this tradition. We gather our members for the Lucia Fest in the middle of December. Members get creative and bring an abundance of Scandinavian side dishes and desserts to supplement the main dinner items.

St Lucia is celebrated in Scandinavia and the highlight of the festivities is the Lucia procession with boys and girls carrying candles lighting up the night. Come and enjoy our Lucia festivities and light up your holiday spirits with Christmas music by the Swedish choir singers. Sing along with the Swedish singers and Lucia girls and boys as Lucia winds through the crowd with her attendants in tow.

3:30 PM - We need the Lucia children to arrive, get dressed, and be ready for the Lucia procession.
4:00 PM - Refreshments will be available and the registration table for next year’s memberships will be open. Credit
card payments will be accepted this year.
5:00 PM - Lucia program begins.

Immediately after the Lucia fest we will have a potluck dinner, everyone brings in a dish to share. Water, soda, gløgg and coffee will be provided, and guests are asked to bring dishes and desserts to share. Traditionally the table is full with Scandinavian and Holiday foods, though any family favorite is welcome. As the evening progresses, keep an eye out for our Tomten (Santa) who should show up with gifts for our younger guests!

The cost for this event is $10 for ages 12 and up.

All children are welcome to participate:
We need both maids and star boys to participate and we would love a big group, the Lucia bride will lead the way, and the choir will help us all sing the Lucia song. It is a wonderful experience, and a memory your children will have with them forever! SSOC will provide costumes and accessories to anyone who’d like to join and absolutely no prior experience is needed.
